Islands, Coral Reefs and Surfing
It is one of the favorite tourist destinations in Panama. Most of the tourism that this beautiful province receives focuses more on the Bocas del Toro Archipelago surrounded by warm, crystalline waters. You can find some of its jungle beaches with no other than you.
Also known as the “Galapago of the Caribbean”, Bocas del Toro has a biodiversity that is worth gold. It is home to some of the most extensive rainforests in Central America, and is made up of nine main islands, 52 keys and thousands of islets.
Among the most famous activities internationally are diving and snorkeling. And there are virgin areas that are preserved within natural parks that are also protected areas.
Surf at Playa Bluff
It is the only golden sand beach in Bocas del Toro. It is located on Isla Colon on the east coast (9 km north of Bocas Town). These 8 kilometers long beach, is perfect for taking relaxing walks.
It has perfect waves for surfing because tubes and fast water currents. Among its waves is the “Paunch” break, which can be found near the city.
If you don’t master the sport but want to swim, go to a protected lagoon with calm waters about an hour away.
Isla Pajaros, a Paradise for Avitourism
Due to its shape similar to a large crouching bird, this rock is known as Bird Island. It is also called “Cayo Cisne” and is located on Isla Colon.
To visit this place, you have to hire a boat, driven by an expert on this area and that knows the behavior of the birds that spend the night or nest there. Among the most common species are frigates, pelicans, swallows, red-billed gannets and gannets.
Of course, it is better to visit it in summer due to its strong winds and waves. It is also an ideal place for snorkeling or diving.
Wake up with a Smile at Dolphin Bay
At 10 kilometers from Colon Island, about 20 minutes by boat, is the widest point of this bay of calm, crystal-clear waters called “Dolphin Bay”. Better known among locals as “Laguna Bocatorito”.
This Bay is home to many dolphins because its waters are a banquet of fish and crustaceans. To see them you have to take a boat early in the morning to go to this area and see bottlenose dolphins swimming in pairs, with their babies or in groups. It is also better for you to go between June and July.




Discover Marine Biodiversity in Bastimentos
The Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park is within one of the largest islands in the country, with its more than 50 square kilometers. It is just 10 minutes by boat from Isla Colon, the capital of Bocas del Toro province.
In this natural region you will find beaches, jungles and keys including: Cayo Zapatillas and Cayo Zapatillas Sur and Coral Gay, where you can go diving.

Enjoy Biking in Bocas Town
The easiest way to get around and get to know part of Bocas del Toro is by riding a bicycle. And if you are going to stay on Isla Colon you can think about renting one. In Bocas Town there are several bicycle rentals offers and guided group tours.
It is also to have bike rides on main roads that are paved. Like “Bluff Road”, the road that leads to playa Bluff or Boca del Drago. This road is paved from the initial stretch to an area known as Paunch. You will be transported, get to know this paradise better and stay in shape.
