Fall in Love with El Valle
Just two hours from Panama City, this town is located inside the only inhabited volcano in the world. It has characteristics typical of the premontane humid forest where there are endemic and fragile species in danger of extinction, such as the golden frog typical of this region.
This paradise with mountains and plains will make you enjoy cool temperatures between 10° and 25°C, making it the ideal destination to escape the heat. You also find all the services of modern life: banks, supermarkets, hotels of all prices and restaurants with great culinary diversity.
Put on Panama’s Most Famous Hat
For more than 200 years, the people of the historic town of La Pintada have been making the “Pintao Hat”, an accessory for daily peasant use. This accessory, made by hand with plant fibers, is an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. A hat that captivates everyone and comes in different styles: everyday, work and gala.
If you love the hat you have to attend “The National Pintao Hat Festival” which is held every October in La Pintada.
Cool off in the Ola Waterfalls
This stream is made up of two natural pools where you can bathe and a multi-level waterfall as the main attraction, being the second tallest in the country.
To get there you have to go through the Ola entrance to the town’s center, there you take the alternate signposted route. After a kilometer of paved road, you will find a dirt trail that you must walk for about 30 minutes until you reach a natural viewpoint.
Walk the Square Trees Trail
On the slopes of Cerro Gaital, crossing Hotel Campestre in Anton Valley, rises a group of trees that have grown with square trunks, a variety typical of this region. Known scientifically as “Quararibea asterolepis”, it is a species of the Malvacea family, with angular and straight edges that give them a square or rectangular appearance. They are like this from the base and up to a few meters high; even their rings take that shape. The trunk grows in a cylindrical shape like any other tree until it reaches between 25 and 35 meters in height. It is an experience that confirms why Cocle is a unique destination.
Discover the Tavida Waterfall
About 30 kilometers from the city of Penonome, the capital of Cocle, there is a natural reserve called Tavida, as well as its imposing waterfall. This waterfall is 32 meters high and is waiting for you to swim in the refreshing natural pool that forms at the base. The trail to the top of the waterfall is located to the right.
On this property there is a hotel with a Spa, medicinal plant gardens, trails, huts and some rooms with a direct view of the jet.
