Shopping tourism is one of the most thriving activities in the Panamanian economy. There are more than 300 shopping centers and plazas, about twenty of them are malls, places with all the stores under one roof and an environment designed for shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), promotes tourist packages in order for tourists from all over the region to visit the country and take advantage of the \u201cPanama Black Weekend\u201d, which takes place in mid-September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another attraction for visitors is the tax on items, in Panama is only 7% compared to other countries with taxes that go up to 14%. The Panamanian Association of Shopping Centers (APACECOM), analyzes several alternatives, one is to return the payment of the 7% tax to tourists. However, some businesses within the malls (shopping centers) have chosen not to charge this tax to foreigners with a passport in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to its geographical position and being a hub of the Americas, both logistical and commercial, Panama is the best destination in the region to live the experience of shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n
